Sedation Dentistry for Nervous Patients

Sedation dentistry

At 92 Dental we recognise that there are some people who are very nervous about going to the dentist

It is estimated that as many as 75% adults experience some degree of fear when going to the dentist. Approximately 5 to 10% of adults are considered to experience dental phobia; that is, they are so fearful of receiving dental treatment that they avoid dental care at all costs. Many people that are scared of the dentist will only seek dental care when they have a dental emergency such as severe pain or a swollen face from untreated dental disease.

People who are very fearful of dental care often experience a “cycle of avoidance” in which they avoid dental care due to fear until they experience a dental emergency that requires invasive treatment. This can then reinforce their fear of dentistry.

At 92 Dental we see it as part of our responsibility to ensure that everyone feels empowered to look after their oral health. We therefore welcome nervous patients and have strategies to make treatment as comfortable as possible. This may be oral or intravenous sedation.

The choice of sedation that we use for a particular patient depends on both the patients needs, and what kind of procedure they are having. As our dentists are highly experienced in both surgical and non-surgical treatments, we will always find a form of sedation which ensures anxiety relief in the least invasive way possible.

When we do intravenous sedation we use a medically qualified anaesthetist to ensure that the sedation is done safely. Our anaesthetists are highly experienced in working in a dental setting specifically.

If you would like to have sedation for any of your treatments with us, please let our receptionist Jenny know when you call her on 020 8748 1381.

We do charge extra when we are required to use an anaesthetist during our procedures. A full list of our prices, including those of intravenous sedation, can be found here.
